Romans Chapters - WEB Bible

Romans is the New Testament's most comprehensive theological letter, written by Paul before his first visit to Rome. It systematically explains the gospel: all humanity is sinful and unable to save itself (chapters 1-3); God justifies the ungodly by faith in Christ alone (chapters 3-5); the Holy Spirit enables holy living (chapters 6-8); Israel's rejection is not final (chapters 9-11); the gospel transforms all human relationships (chapters 12-16). Romans Bible chapters contain some of scripture's most quoted verses, including Romans 3:23, 6:23, 8:28, 8:38-39, and 12:1-2. Romans has shaped Christian theology and revival movements more than any other letter in the New Testament.

About Romans

Romans is the forty-fifth book of the Bible and the first of the Pauline epistles, written by the apostle Paul around AD 57 while in Corinth and spanning 16 chapters. Often called the greatest letter ever written, Romans is Paul's most systematic and comprehensive exposition of the Christian gospel, written to introduce himself to the Roman church he hoped to visit before proceeding to Spain. It lays out with extraordinary logical precision the universal human need for salvation, God's righteousness revealed in the gospel, justification by faith alone, the work of the Holy Spirit, the mystery of Israel's role in God's plan, and the practical outworking of gospel transformation in everyday life. Major themes include the universal sinfulness of humanity (all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God), justification by faith apart from works of law, the security of those who are in Christ, the sovereignty of God in election, and the ethical implications of the gospel for community life. Key chapters include Romans 3 (justification by faith), Romans 5 (peace with God through Christ), Romans 8 (no condemnation, the Spirit's work, all things for good), and Romans 12 (living sacrifices). Famous verses include Romans 8:28 -- And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him -- and Romans 1:16 -- I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation.
