Isaiah Chapters - WEB Bible

Isaiah is one of the Bible's greatest prophetic books, written by Isaiah son of Amoz during the reigns of four kings of Judah in the eighth century BC. Known as the "Gospel Prophet" for his extensive messianic prophecies, Isaiah contains stunning visions of judgment and salvation. Isaiah Bible chapters include the call vision of Isaiah 6, the Immanuel promise (7:14), and especially Isaiah 52-53 — the Suffering Servant passage that describes the crucifixion of Jesus Christ with extraordinary precision seven centuries before it occurred. Isaiah's vision of the new creation (Isaiah 65-66) provides a climactic vision of God's ultimate purpose for His people.

About Isaiah

Isaiah is the twenty-third book of the Bible and the longest of the prophetic books, written by Isaiah son of Amoz during the reigns of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah -- roughly 740 to 700 BC -- and spanning 66 chapters. Often called the Fifth Gospel for its remarkable Messianic prophecies, Isaiah contains some of the clearest predictions of Christ's first and second comings found anywhere in the Old Testament. The book divides roughly into two halves: chapters 1-39 emphasize judgment and the holiness of God, while chapters 40-66 emphasize comfort, redemption, and the glory of God's salvation. Major themes include the holiness of God, the folly of trusting in human alliances over God, the universal scope of God's salvation, the coming Servant of the Lord, and the renewal of all creation. Key chapters include Isaiah 6 (Isaiah's vision and commissioning), Isaiah 7 (Immanuel prophecy), Isaiah 40 (Comfort, comfort my people), Isaiah 53 (the Suffering Servant), and Isaiah 61 (the Year of the Lord's Favor, quoted by Jesus in Luke 4). Famous verses include Isaiah 40:31 -- Those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles -- and Isaiah 53:5 -- By his wounds we are healed.
