Street here means several things at once - a career path through Wall Street, a childhood spent in dance class instead of on the block, and an ordinary bystander worn down by conflict. Like shares a similarly reflective tone.

In the normal world, the residents of Scream Street would not be welcome - they would be seen as freaks and ghouls, so it wouldn't be OK for them to be there. Scream Street is a haven for them; it's their own little place where they can be safe.

We slept in the park before we had a house, and eventually we shared a home - my parents, my grandparents and five uncles, my family, all of us - on White Oaks Street by Magnolia Street near the railroad. Those were hard times, but I loved living there.

My favourite restaurant of all time is Mildreds on London's Lexington Street. It's a little vegetarian restaurant and is really fun and healthy, too. It was the first place I went to in London and really liked. That was 20 years ago, and it is still my favourite.

The subway reached 145th street about 1904, and it seemed that Harlem's destiny was to become largely a preserve of successful ethnics relocating and arriving. Then, overnight, the bust took place.
