Fame comes with its own kind of losing, according to one quote here, whether that costs a person close friendships or precious time with family. A sports-minded line takes the same word further, arguing plainly that people learn more from losing than they ever do from winning.

Any scene I've ever played where I've thought people who watch it had experienced something like that - for example, people who've had to deal with losing a parent - I want to do it as respectfully as possible for those people.

'Meek's Cutoff' by Kelly Reichardt - it's beautifully shot. It's a complex story. The filmmaker gave a very patient and feminine touch to a story that takes place during a period of history that's very masculine, without losing any of the unforgiving harshness of the reality where the characters found themselves in.
