Psalm 93 - The LORD Reigns Above the Floods

Five verses declaring God's kingship stronger than the roar of the sea.

Psalms 93: The LORD Reigneth

At only five verses, Psalm 93 opens a run of kingship psalms in the Psalms overview, declaring 'the LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty' while picturing the lifted floods and waves as no match for His strength.

The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, with which he hath girded himself: the world also is established, that it cannot be moved.

Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O LORD, the floods have lifted up their voice; the floods lift their waves.

The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yes, than the mighty waves of the sea.

Thy testimonies are very sure: holiness becometh thy house, O LORD, for ever.

Its declaration that 'the LORD reigneth' is repeated almost word for word in Psalms 96:10, part of the same cluster of enthronement psalms. It closes with 'holiness becometh thine house,' leading into the longer plea for justice in Psalms 94.
