Psalm 92 - A Sabbath Song of Thanksgiving

The only psalm titled for the Sabbath, praising God's morning and night faithfulness.

Psalms 92: A Song for the Sabbath Day

Psalm 92 carries the title 'A Song for the Sabbath Day,' the only psalm in the Psalms overview marked for that specific use, opening with thanks for God's lovingkindness 'in the morning' and faithfulness 'every night.'

The Lord hath reigned, he is clothed with beauty: the Lord is clothed with strength, and hath girded himself. For he hath established the world which shall not be moved.

My throne is prepared from of old: thou art from everlasting.

The floods have lifted up, O Lord: the floods have lifted up their voice. The floods have lifted up their waves,

With the noise of many waters. Wonderful are the surges of the sea: wonderful is the Lord on high.

Thy testimonies are become exceedingly credible: holiness becometh thy house, O Lord, unto length of days.

That daily renewal of faithfulness parallels the well-known line from Lamentations 3:22-23 that God's mercies are new every morning. The psalm's image of the righteous flourishing like a palm tree follows naturally after the refuge described in Psalms 91.
