Psalms 66 – He Turned the Sea into Dry Land

All the earth is called to praise the God who parted the sea.

Psalms 66: Make a Joyful Noise Unto God

This entry in the Psalms overview opens as a summons to every nation to make a joyful noise to God, recalling how He turned the sea into dry land so His people crossed on foot. It follows the harvest praise of Psalms 65 with a broader call to worship.

Unto the end, in hymns, a psalm of a canticle for David.

May God have mercy on us, and bless us: may he cause the light of his countenance to shine upon us, and may he have mercy on us.

That we may know thy way upon earth: thy salvation in all nations.

Let people confess to thee, O God: let all people give praise to thee.

Let the nations be glad and rejoice: for thou judgest the people with justice, and directest the nations upon earth.

Let the people, O God, confess to thee: let all the people give praise to thee:

The earth hath yielded her fruit. May God, our God bless us,

May God bless us: and all the ends of the earth fear him.

The psalmist testifies that God tried him like silver and brought him through fire and water into a wealthy place, then vows to bring burnt offerings in response. His confidence that God hears the sincere echoes John 9:31, and the praise continues into Psalms 67.
