Psalms 132

A psalm recalling David's vow and God's choice of Zion.

Psalms 132 - David's Oath and Zion Chosen

Psalm 132 retells David's determined oath not to rest "until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob," tying his devotion to the search for the ark's resting place. It expands the personal trust of Psalms 131 into a longer meditation on covenant and worship.

A gradual canticle of David. Behold how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity:

Like the precious ointment on the head, that ran down upon the beard, the beard of Aaron, Which ran down to the skirt of his garment:

As the dew of Hermon, which descendeth upon mount Sion. For there the Lord hath commanded blessing, and life for evermore.

In response, the LORD swears an oath of His own regarding David's throne and declares He has chosen Zion "for his habitation," promising to clothe her priests with salvation, a theme paralleled in Psalms 99:5.
