Psalms 119 – Blessed Are the Undefiled in the Way

An extended meditation on loving, hiding, and keeping the LORD's word and statutes.

Psalms 119 – Delighting in God's Law

Following the victory psalm of Psalms 118, this extended meditation opens 'Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD,' launching a sustained love song to God's word.

In my trouble I cried to the Lord: and he heard me.

O Lord, deliver my soul from wicked lips, and a deceitful tongue.

What shall be given to thee, or what shall be added to thee, to a deceitful tongue?

The sharp arrows of the mighty, with coals that lay waste.

Woe is me, that my sojourning is prolonged! I have dwelt with the inhabitants of Cedar:

My soul hath been long a sojourner.

With them that hated peace I was peaceable: when I spoke to them they fought against me without cause.

Its famous vow in <a href="/bible/drc/psalms/chapter-119/11">Psalms 119:11</a>, 'Thy word have I hid in mine heart,' matches the guidance promised in <a href="/bible/drc/proverbs/chapter-6/23">Proverbs 6:23</a>, before the ascent psalms begin in <a href="/bible/drc/psalms/chapter-120">Psalms 120</a>.
