Ecclesiastes 1
Vanity of vanities, saith the Preacher, vanity of vanities; all is vanity.
Ecclesiastes 1 opens the book with the Preacher, the son of David and king in Jerusalem, declaring vanity of vanities, all is vanity, then surveying the endless, repeating cycles of sun, wind, and rivers as evidence that there is no new thing under the sun. 傳道者 說：虛空 的虛空，虛空 的虛空，凡事 都是虛空。
人 一切的 勞碌，就是 他在日光 之下 的勞碌，有甚麼 益處呢？
一代 過去，一代 又來，地 卻永遠 長存。
日頭 出來，日頭 落下，急 歸 所 出 之地。
風 往 南 颳，又向 北 轉，不住地 旋轉，而且 返回 轉行 原道。
江河 都 往 海 裡流，海 卻不 滿；江河 從 何處 流，仍 歸 還 何處。
萬 事令人厭煩（或譯：萬物滿有困乏），人 不 能 說盡。眼看，看 不 飽；耳聽，聽 不 足。
已有的事 後必再有；已行的事 後必再行。日光 之下 並無 新事。
豈有 一件事 人能指著說 這 是 新的？哪知，在 我們以前 的世代 早已 有了。
已過的世代，無人 記念；將來的世代，後來的人 也 不 記念。
我 傳道者 在耶路撒冷 作過 以色列 的王。
我專 心 用智慧 尋求、查究 天 下 所 做 的一切事，乃知 神 叫 世人 所經練的 是 極重的 勞苦。
我見 日光 之下 所做 的一切 事， 都是 虛空，都是捕 風。
彎曲的，不 能 變直；缺少的，不 能 足數。
我 心裡 議論 說： 我 得了 大 智慧，勝過 我以前 在 耶路撒冷 的眾人，而且我心中 多 經歷 智慧 和知識的事。
我又專 心 察明 智慧、 狂妄，和愚昧，乃知 這 也 是 捕 風。
因為 多有 智慧，就多有 愁煩；加增 知識的，就加增 憂傷。
