Esther is the seventeenth book of the Bible, written anonymously around 400-350 BC and spanning 10 chapters. It tells the gripping story of a young Jewish woman named Esther who became queen of the vast Persian Empire under King Ahasuerus (Xerxes I) and, at great personal risk, used her position to save the entire Jewish people from a genocidal plot engineered by the king's wicked prime minister Haman. Remarkably, God is never explicitly mentioned in the Book of Esther, yet His providential hand is unmistakably present in every twist of the story. Major themes include God's hidden but certain providence, the courage of faith in the face of mortal danger, the reversal of the wicked's schemes, and God's unbreakable commitment to preserving His covenant people.
